Rose

from $3.00

Rose is a long-lived perennial shrub celebrated for its fragrant blossoms, delicate petals, and symbolic presence across cultures. Valued for both beauty and usefulness, rose has played an enduring role in culinary, medicinal, cosmetic, artistic, and metaphysical/spiritual traditions. Different parts of the plant—especially petals, hips and thorns —have been used in distinct ways depending on species, place, and tradition.

Rose Designations for This Listing:

  • Heritage Rose: This is an unknown variety that has grown on this farm since almost the beginning of its history. It is pale pink when blooming and dries to more of a pink/cream color petal. For metaphysical purposes, we associate this rose with the indominable spirit — and strength of will — of homesteaders. It represents strength, stability and perseverance. (We did actually try to remove it because it grows in an awkward location, but this particular bush is apparently invincible!) These are appropriate for all uses, especially for enchantments.

  • Heart of Rock Roses: These buds and petals are from a beautiful bush that grows here at Heart of Rock Farm. We don’t know the variety, but each dried petal is a mix of deep pink and yellow. They are appropriate for all uses.

  • Nikki Rose:(You’ll find Nikki Rose under a separate listing because of it’s unique story.)

  • Mixed Roses, Petals and Rosebuds: Anything identified as “mixed” will contain a variety of colors and types of rose. The rosebuds are of mixed size.

  • Wild Rose: These are also pink and yellow. We don’t recommend them for culinary, medicinal or tea use as they were foraged near a country road and we don’t know if they were sprayed; but they are excellent for artistic use and for metaphysical purposes, depending on what meaning a wild rose holds for you.

  • Leaves, Thorns and Thorny Branches: These are available primarily for metaphysical purposes. The leaves hold the same correspondences as roses themselves. The thorns — and especially the thorny branches — represent safety, protection, warding, boundaries and strength.

Rose is available in petal, bloom, rosebud, leaf and thorn forms, in several size packages. Fresh petals might be available in the growing season, but must be ordered in advance for pickup or local delivery.
